How to lead (and move forward) in times of challenge
Let me begin by saying leadership touches every realm of our life - from how we do relationships, to the choices we make as a parent, to what forms of self-expression we put out into the world.
Truly, leadership belongs to all of us.
With all the change and uncertainty in 2020, we are being asked to go deeper than ever before. As I speak to fellow teachers, coaches, community organizers, artists, and other movers, shakers, and disrupters…I’m hearing some version of this question over and over again:
How do we come from our heart space, honoring differing perspectives, while also speaking our truth?
In a time when our world is going through a global health and economic crisis, in addition to the U.S.A embarking on what might be the biggest civil rights uprising next to 1968, it is not unusual that our fear response is on high alert…and in that space in can be hard to trust our voice. We can become paralyzed or defensive as we fear “hurting someone,” “pissing people off,” or “coming across as uncaring.”
While I can not guarantee a way for you to avoid those situations, I do know that this is not the time to let fear lead. This is the time where our leadership is needed more than ever. And as I’ve always taught, the world is not looking for perfect leaders, it’s looking for human leaders.
So let’s come together this July 6th to talk about it. Let’s dive into the inquiry, “How do we come from our heart space, honoring differing perspectives, while also speaking our truth?”
For the July Leadership Lounge, I am asking that anyone who joins us simply donate at least $39 (the usual cost of this 2-hour interactive lesson) to nationalbailout.org - all you need to do is e-mail me proof you donated (a screenshot or anything else that shows me you donated).
note: If you donate after June 30th, you will not receive an email from me until the evening of July 5th as I’ll be in nature camping July 1-5 (no electronics or media for 5 days - yay!).
Next week I’ll be sharing a personal story that explains why I’m choosing this organization, as well as more details on the lesson.

If you, like me, identify as an artist, watch this eloquent description by Nina Simone about the duty of an artist. (less than 1 minute)
Also, I’m listening to a beautiful book right now called My Grandmother’s Hands: racialized trauma & the pathway to mending our hearts and bodies.
