10 Tools to Ditch Overwhelm and Create the Life You Desire

When I am being swept into what feels like chaos - feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks or certain circumstances unfolding (or not unfolding) the way I would like in my life, there are two things I ask myself.

One, "what is the lesson here?"

Two, "what are my dominant thoughts and feelings?"

Today's focus is going to be on the second question and the power it has to quite literally, transform your life.

Our emotions are the frequency that we are vibrating at. Our thoughts create our feelings and also our feelings perpetuate thoughts. Our thoughts are our beliefs and the meaning we attach to an experience we are having.

Our beliefs and the meaning we attach to an experience will certainly influence our feelings about something (or someone) and those feelings will elicit thoughts that confirm those feelings and so on and so forth. Truly, with our thoughts, we are choosing to either create hell, mediocracy, or heaven on earth. You probably know of countless stories of people who have lived (or are living) less than desirable circumstances, though have overcome them through peace of mind - or rather, becoming aware of their thoughts, their feelings, and the fact that this is a power they can use to create a rather extraordinary life - even against some pretty fierce odds (a few that come to mind immediately - Nelson Madela, Ray Charles, Helen Keller, Aung San Suu kyi, NIck Vujicic, & Oprah (yes Oprah - her story is incredible!).

“The meaning you attach to something produces the emotion of your life and your emotion is your life.” — Tony Robbins

So what about this frequency thing I speak of?

Science is catching up with ancient wisdom and is now able to measure emotions and also detect how certain thoughts and thought patterns can drastically effect our emotions and overall well being.

"Emotions have unique vibrations just like colors and physical objects do. These emotional vibrations also go from higher/faster to lower/slower. When you are laughing and having fun, your body’s vibrations are lighter (higher and faster). When you are tired and sick your vibrations are heavier (slower and lower). You know how when you are in love, you feel “energized”, “high”,  like you’re “walking on a cloud?” That’s because your emotions are literally adding voltage and power,  lightening your body. And when you’re negative and depressed, you feel sluggish, “feeling low,” “heavy”. “I’m down today.”  Your emotional vibrations are giving your body a slower, lower vibration. This is not speaking metaphorically. This is scientifically measurable. (Molecules of Emotion by Dr. Candace Pert and HMI www.heartmath.com )"

So, when you think about your life and your desires (or what you would like to be experiencing), what are the prominent thoughts and feelings that go along with that? What is the meaning you are attaching to your experiences and how is this working out for you?

As an example, let's use abundance (or wanting to have the experience where money is not something you worry about - ever).

When you think about money do you feel that from a place of lack, envy, urgency, and/or doubt? Are your thoughts things like, "I never seem to have enough?" "money is stressful." "I'm always broke." "Things are fine now, but who knows how tomorrow will be." "people with money are evil." "I feel bad having money when others don't." "I can attract money, but never keep it."

Or when thinking of money is it from a place of gratitude, appreciation, 'enoughness', patience, confidence, and/or faith/trust? Are your thoughts something like this, "I may not be able to afford a new car right now, but I'm grateful for the car I have now. It's reliable and gets me where I need to go." "Money may be tight right now, but truth is, I can afford to treat myself on occasion with flowers or that pretty $4.50 fancy soap." "Money may be tight right now because I made an investment in something I knew would grow me in the long run. I chose that and it's worth it, I'm worth it." "Me and money have a good relationship, and it's getting better everyday." "everyday in every way, I am growing richer and richer."

It's important to notice the repetitive thoughts and feeling that are occurring for you as you reach for your desires, as your thoughts and feelings will be perfectly reflected. This is law (of attraction) and also straight up science.

"It is the basis of our Universe: When it is asked, it is always given. Humans think they are asking with their words, or even with their action — and sometimes you are — but the Universe is not responding to your words or your action. The Universe is responding to your vibrational calling." ~Abraham

Scientifically speaking, we have something in our brain called the RAS - the reticular activating system.  This is the part of your brain that helps us to notice things. In particular, things that we seem to put attention towards.

Have you ever noticed that in a large crowd with many conversations going on, when your name is called you can instantly notice it in the jumble of all that noise. This is your RAS working for you, helping you to notice things that are important to you. And the RAS knows it's important to you because your attention is on your name a lot (think how many times you say it, write it, and hear it - even in just one day).

With regards to your desires, if you put your attention again and again on something (like wanting money), the RAS can help you to notice things that will help you have more money. However, if your thoughts and feelings are not authentically resonating with that desire, than you will not see the results you are hoping for. Even if you say you want more money, the brain only picks up the repeated thoughts and emotions. So notice the truth of what is really being expressed to the brain.

So my recommendation if you want to create an extraordinary life - do whatever it takes to get into a vibration of gratitude, appreciation, 'enoughness', patience, confidence, faith/trust (because this is your truth and who you really are anyways).

Here are few things I do to amplify my frequency:

1. Watch Tony Robbins (or other inspiring people, like Ted Talks) on Youtube and watch them like crazy.

2. Read an inspiring book that changes your mindset (you can view my resource guide to find tons of great suggestions)

3. Exercise and think about how incredible your body is (it is!)

4. Hug and kiss your loved ones and relish in their existence in your life

5. Hang out with people who make you feel great and encourage positive things in your life

6. DON'T go on social media too often, except to publish

7. DON'T compare, criticize, or complain - these things dim our radiance

8. Be playful and go places where you can be playful. Play is food for the soul.

9. Start a gratitude journal (or jar) and everyday write down 1-3 things you are grateful for and 3 reasons why.

10. Love yourself and say this to yourself daily, "I am enough and I love myself." Let this affirmation become like a broken record in your subconscious.
