What are you a stand for?
This is a question that changed my life.
I sat with it and felt it in my bones - the anger, the love, the sadness, the conviction, and ultimately…the peace it generated in the depths of me. I journaled on it. I spoke about it. I created my work in the world based on it.
I know who I am and what I’m made of, because of it.
I’m a stand for possibility…
seeing potential in ourselves and others…even when it’s hard.
I’m a stand for courage…
being afraid and doing it anyways…because I can not, will not - live a half lived life.
I’m a stand for belonging…
to ourself - that still, small voice (our soul), even when others don’t understand and to each other, because together, we are stronger.
And what I’m a stand for more than anything else is this…
Change-making belongs to all of us, and begins when we see ourselves as the capable, brave, and unique souls we truly are. Because when we really see what were made of, we make very different choices in our life. {Tweet This}
Here are three questions that will help you more clearly define what you’re a stand for.
Directions:
~Set a timer for 3 minutes for each question.
~Do not overthink it, simply let the first thoughts that come to you, be so.
~And for the love of baby toes, give yourself time to refine this. Discovery of what we stand for and connecting with the words that most eloquently express that, may. take. time.
~Fall in love with simply starting and the journey will wildly unravel you into…you.
1. What values do you hold in highest regard in your life?
values are the most important ways you show up in the world (and when you don’t honor these values, life feels off, divided, not whole). They are not ideals (‘wouldn’t that be nice’ kinda attitude about them), but deep rooted core standards of behavior. It may be helpful to google ‘list of values’ to jump start your heart strings. Look for the top 5-10 words that jump out at you. Later you will refine this down to about three.
2. What do you believe is possible in life, making you sit up a little taller when you think about it?
Or cry? Or take a deep breath and soften? Or feel a connection to something that is bigger than you?
3. What ways of being drive you bonkers or annoys or infuriates you?
Think about those moments when you get swept away in passion, speaking with others about certain subjects.
And for a little inspiration kick-start I recommend you watch this moving 3 minute speech by Naomi Walden. She is 11 years old and an exemplary model for the change-making that comes through us when we connect to what we’re a stand for.
